What is a Visa on Arrival?
The Visa on Arrival is a special, single-entry and limited-duration visa arrangement available for short-term tourist travel from Türkiye to certain Greek islands.
- The visa may be issued for a short-term stay of up to 7 days.
- The validity period and permitted duration of stay are subject to the dates and conditions stated on the visa.
- The Visa on Arrival is valid only for the island for which the application is made and through which the traveller enters Greece.
- Travel to another Greek island or to mainland Greece is not permitted under this visa.
- The traveller must exit Greece through the same island through which they entered under the Visa on Arrival.
- The Visa on Arrival does not provide freedom of movement within the Schengen Area and is not a substitute for a Schengen visa.
- Important: Travellers must strictly comply with the validity dates and permitted duration of stay stated on their visa. Staying beyond the permitted period or travelling to an island or the mainland outside the scope of the visa is not permitted.

Reservation Documents
Hotel Reservation
A valid hotel or accommodation reservation covering the entire period of travel must be submitted with the Visa on Arrival application.
- The hotel reservation must be prepared in English.
- The reservation must clearly show the hotel name, address, accommodation dates and contact details.
- If the traveller will stay at more than one hotel or accommodation facility, all reservations covering the entire trip must be submitted.
- The full names of applicants applying for a Visa on Arrival must appear on the reservation in CAPITAL LETTERS and without Turkish characters.
- The names and surnames shown on the reservation must match the information in the applicant's passport.
- The names of persons who are not applying for a Visa on Arrival must not appear on the hotel reservation submitted for the Visa on Arrival application.
- If the applicant's name does not appear on the reservation, additional supporting documents explaining the accommodation arrangements may be requested.
- Important: The names shown on the hotel reservation must be consistent with the ferry reservation, application form and all other application documents. Different or conflicting information among the submitted documents may result in a request for additional documentation or an adverse decision on the application.
Ferry Ticket
A round-trip ferry ticket showing the planned travel arrangements must be submitted with the Visa on Arrival application.
- A round-trip ferry ticket must be purchased.
- The departure and return dates shown on the ticket must match the travel dates stated in the Visa on Arrival application.
- The travel dates and ferry schedules must fall within the validity period of the Visa on Arrival.
- For same-day trips, it is recommended to choose a suitable morning departure to the relevant island and a return ferry on the same day.
- For trips involving an overnight stay, the return date must be consistent with the planned accommodation period and the maximum permitted stay of 7 days under the Visa on Arrival.
- As ferry schedules and availability may change, it is strongly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance in accordance with the application and travel plan.
- Important: Travellers using a Visa on Arrival must leave the island through which they entered within the period permitted by the visa. Therefore, the return ticket must be consistent with the travel plan.
Travel Insurance
A valid travel health insurance policy covering the entire travel period is required for the Visa on Arrival application and during the trip.
- The travel insurance must cover the entire duration of the trip.
- The insurance policy must be issued in English.
- The policy must provide a minimum of EUR 30,000 in medical coverage.
- It is recommended that the insurance start 1 day before the planned travel date.
- It is recommended that the insurance end 1 day after the planned return date.
- The policy must clearly state the traveller's name, travel dates, coverage amount and insurance coverage.
- If the travel plan changes, the traveller must ensure that the insurance policy matches the updated travel dates.
Special Offer for SUNMED Travel Guests
Guests who arrange their travel through SUNMED Travel may benefit from a special travel insurance service offered at EUR 1 per person, under the preferential terms available to our company.
Guests who wish to use this service only need to request travel insurance when making their reservation.
- Important: The coverage and benefits of the travel insurance are subject to the terms and conditions of the issued policy. The policy must meet the minimum EUR 30,000 medical coverage requirement and be valid for the relevant travel dates. Purchasing travel insurance does not guarantee that a visa will be granted or that entry into Greece will be permitted.
Financial Requirements
As part of the application, a bank statement demonstrating that the applicant has sufficient financial means to cover the costs of the trip must be submitted. For Schengen applications submitted from Türkiye to Greece, bank statements are expected to show the last 3 months of account activity and evidence of a regular source of income.
- The bank statement must be wet-signed and stamped, or digitally signed/verifiable with a QR code.
- The statement must show account activity for the last 3 months.
- The applicant should have a sufficient balance to cover their expenses during the trip.
- A balance of at least EUR 1,000 per person, or the equivalent amount in Turkish Lira, is recommended. This amount is not an officially guaranteed or mandatory visa balance; it is recommended to support the applicant's financial sufficiency.
- The account should be active and show regular transactions, as this is important when assessing the applicant's financial circumstances.
- It is preferable for the account to show regular and genuine financial activity, rather than a large amount of money being deposited into the account shortly before the application.
Joint Bank Account for Family Applications
A single bank account may be used to cover the travel expenses of members of the same family. However, it is recommended that the account holder be one of the family members travelling and that the balance in the account be sufficient to cover the expenses of all travelling family members.
In such cases, the required financial means should be calculated according to the number of travellers. For example, if EUR 1,000 per person is recommended for a family of four, a total balance of at least EUR 4,000 or the equivalent amount in Turkish Lira is recommended.
When a joint account is used, the following documents are recommended to be included in each family member's application file:
- A copy of the bank statement for the jointly used account
- A copy of the account holder's passport
- A sponsorship/undertaking form signed by the account holder
- Documents demonstrating the family relationship, where required
Important: Where a sponsor undertakes the applicant's travel expenses, it is important to support the sponsorship arrangement and family relationship with appropriate documentation. Schengen rules expressly recognise sponsorship and sufficient means of subsistence as factors that may be taken into consideration when assessing an application.
Additional Documents
The following documents should also be included in the application file:
- Passenger declaration (for the waiting period)
- Letter of undertaking
Recommended Additional Documents
Applicants are strongly advised to include documents demonstrating their employment, retirement, student status, commercial activity or agricultural activity.
These documents are used to support the applicant's regular income, financial circumstances, professional status and economic and social ties to Türkiye.
Depending on the applicant's circumstances, the following documents are recommended:
Employees
- Salary slips for the last 3 months
- Current SGK Registration and Service Record obtained through e-Devlet
- Employment and leave letter issued by the employer
- Where necessary, employment commencement notification or other official documents relating to the employer
Retired Persons
- Official retirement status document obtained through e-Devlet
- Bank statements or other income documents showing the regular pension income
Students
- Current student certificate obtained through e-Devlet
- For higher education students, where possible, a QR-code-verifiable student certificate
- Where necessary, an additional education-status document issued by the school or university
Company Owners / Self-Employed Persons
- Current Tax Certificate
- Certificate of Activity
- Chamber of Commerce registration certificate or registration document issued by the relevant professional organisation
- Official document demonstrating the applicant's connection with the company or business
- Where necessary, Trade Registry Gazette
- Where available, relevant official documents demonstrating tax payment status
Farmers / Agricultural Activity Owners
- Current Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) Certificate obtained through e-Devlet
- Where available, Chamber of Agriculture Registration Certificate
- Official documents demonstrating the applicant's connection with the agricultural activity
- Where available, bank statements or other official income documents showing income generated from agricultural activities
- Where necessary, title deed, lease agreement or other official documents relating to the land on which the agricultural activity is carried out
Other Income or Professional Groups
If the applicant's employment or income status differs from the categories above, it is recommended that official documents demonstrating their regular income and professional/economic status be included in the application file.
Application Period
Applications must be submitted sufficiently in advance to allow enough time for the necessary application and processing procedures to be completed before the travel date.
- Minimum application period: at least 10 days before the travel date
- During busy periods, public holidays and national holidays, applying earlier is strongly recommended.
- Sufficient time should be allowed for the preparation, checking and processing of documents.
- If the passport and/or required documents are to be delivered by courier, the courier dispatch and delivery time must also be taken into consideration.
- As courier delays, weekends, public holidays or operational issues may affect the application process, applicants are advised not to leave their applications until the last few days.
- Important: The stated 10-day period is the minimum recommended application period. It does not mean that the application will definitely be processed within 10 days or that the passport will be delivered within this period. Applicants are therefore strongly advised to apply as early as possible, taking both the travel date and courier delivery time into consideration.
Important Rules
- The Visa on Arrival is not a Schengen visa. It is a special visa arrangement for short-term tourist travel to certain Greek islands, with limited scope and specific conditions of use.
- Having previously been refused a Schengen visa does not automatically prevent an applicant from applying for a Visa on Arrival. However, previous visa applications and refusals may be taken into consideration when assessing a new application. It is therefore important to provide complete and accurate information regarding any previous applications.
- The Visa on Arrival is valid only for the island through which the traveller enters under the visa. Travel to another Greek island or to mainland Greece is not permitted. The traveller must exit Greece through the same island through which they entered.
- All application documents must be complete, accurate, up to date and consistent with one another. Missing or false information or documents may result in an adverse decision on the application or problems at border control.
Warning Regarding KKTC Stamps and Place of Birth
According to the information stated in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel guidance for Greece, Turkish citizens whose passports contain an entry or exit stamp from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC/KKTC), as well as those whose place of birth is stated as KKTC in their passport, are not permitted to enter Greece.
Therefore:
- Persons whose passports contain an entry or exit stamp from KKTC, and
- Persons whose place of birth is stated as KKTC in their passport
may not have their Visa on Arrival applications accepted and may not be permitted to enter Greece.
This issue may affect entry into Greece even where the traveller holds a valid Schengen visa or Visa on Arrival.
Applicants must carefully check the place-of-birth information in their passport and any KKTC entry/exit stamps before submitting an application.
- Important: Travellers whose passports contain a KKTC stamp or whose place of birth is stated as KKTC are strongly advised to check their eligibility for travel before submitting an application. Any refund of visa, service or other processing fees paid after an application has been submitted shall be subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant service provider.
